LOCAL BUSINESS HOSTS FUNDRAISER FOR FIELDS FOR OUR FUTURE
BATH – In efforts to replace McMann field with an artificial turf surface, Fields for our Future is turning to the community for support and donations. Now You’re Cooking was quick to show their support. Starting Monday, November 22nd and running through Saturday, November 27th, Now You’re Cooking in Bath will donate a portion of its sales to support Fields for our Future. Throughout the past year, Now You’re Cooking has selected one local non-profit organization a month to support through a similar campaign as a way to say thank you to the community for a great ten years in business.
The goal of Fields for our Future is to bring current state of the art field turf to the recreation athletic fields in Bath to provide a more safe and enjoyable environment. The result will be a stable, resilient, uniform, shock-absorbing surface that looks and feels like natural grass. With the natural grass surface there today, McMann usage is limited to approximately 200 hours per year which restricts practices and prohibits its use during rain or snow. A turf field could increase the use of McMann field to 2,000 hours per year and allow spring sports to practice outdoors and compete when late spring snow and rain would have prevented field use. The turf field will attract events, state tournaments and sporting festivals. These events will bring thousands of people to Bath, many of which will stay, shop and eat in Bath.
“Bath is a unique little city,” says Vanessa Mayer, business manager of Now You’re Cooking. “The comradery, passion and care we have shows at times like this.” The Fields for our Future campaign must raise $300,000, on top of the $270,000 in already acquired funding, for the installation of the turf field. “Now You’re Cooking see’s value in Turf McMann not just as a business but as residents. Over the past 10 years we have employed over 20 high school students and their safety and ability to enjoy extra field time is important,” states Vanessa.
